Leka Top Trek Overview
The Leka Top Trek is a lesser-known yet incredibly scenic Himalayan trail that starts from the quaint Jakhol Village in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Sankri Range and part of the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, this offbeat trek offers an ideal blend of dense forest trails, pristine alpine meadows, and breathtaking views of the Swargarohini and Bandarpunch massifs.
Situated at an altitude of around 12,500 feet (3,810 meters), Leka Top is a peaceful high-altitude meadow that offers 360-degree panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks, undisturbed natural beauty, and absolute solitude — a dream for trekkers seeking offbeat Himalayan experiences.
The trail begins from Jakhol Village, a traditional village with wooden homes and rich local culture. The trek gradually climbs through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, crossing remote shepherd huts and hidden glades. The camping spots en route are secluded, scenic, and offer clear night skies perfect for stargazing.
Unlike crowded trails like Kedarkantha and Har Ki Dun, Leka Top remains untouched, making it ideal for photographers, birdwatchers, solo backpackers, and those seeking quiet nature treks. It’s a moderate trek — great for beginners with basic fitness and those looking to upgrade from easy treks.
Whether you’re chasing sunsets, photography, Himalayan wildlife, or peaceful campsites, the Leka Top Trek from Jakhol Village delivers an unforgettable off-the-grid adventure.

Your journey to the remote and scenic Leka Top begins early in the morning from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. As you leave the city, the road gradually ascends through the hills of Mussoorie, offering your first glimpses of the Garhwal Himalayas.
After crossing Mussoorie and Nainbagh, the drive becomes more serene and forested as you move toward Purola, a bustling town where you can stop for a quick meal or snack. The road from here winds through beautiful pine and deodar forests and follows the course of the Tons River, one of the major tributaries of the Yamuna.
Crossing Mori and Netwar, the terrain gets more remote and peaceful. You’ll pass small Himalayan hamlets before finally reaching Jakhol village, located in the Supin Valley and part of the Govind National Park. Jakhol is also the base village for several other treks like Kedarkantha, Har Ki Dun, and Devkyara.

Upon reaching Leka Top (3,100 m), you’re rewarded with a wide 360° view of surrounding valleys and mountain ranges. The area is untouched, serene, and perfect for a short rest, lunch, and photography.
